Every RV obviously has a power cable to feed the RV. Different Campers have different power
needs. 30 Amp power cords are the most common, but the bigger campers with multiple AC
units will have a 50 amp power cord. Our camper has a single AC unit so it is only 30 amp
service. We are in the woods and can have mice get into things. We try to do our best t
prevent them. The factory power cord pulls out from the camper wall. The cover that goes
around the cord when it is out has gaps where mice can get in and that is a direct access to the
inside of the camper. We leave our camper plugged in while at home to keep the batteries
charged and allow us to turn the fridge on ahead of time to get it cooled down before we put
food in. What we did to solve this problem was go to an external connection cord. A special 30
amp plug goes on the outside wall just like a regular house receptacle. We went with a Furrion
brand plug. It has a blue LED that lights up when we have shore power connected. It is
completely waterproof. Anyone with basic wiring skills can handle this job. It can be installed
right where the pull through of the cord is, or added off to the side. There are alot of campers
that do have this cord plug in already as they are becoming a lot more common and easier for
manufacturers to install given that they don’t need to make a box within the wall to hold a cord
for the old fashioned pull through.
